Members of the class of 2020 who have recently decided to become Golden Bears are just months away from stepping onto campus as students. While Berkeley has a great deal to offer in athletics and academics, let’s be honest: Food is a big factor when falling in love with a school.

If you’re a new student, here are 4 places on campus to make sure to stop by.

1. Brown’s Café

Berkeley

Located on the north end of campus, this spot shows the gourmet side of UC Berkeley dining and is well-known for its beautifully prepared food, like the Turkey Apple Cheddar Panini. Order your food to-go and eat while dodging frisbees on Memorial Glade to feel like a true college student.

2. Golden Bear Café

GBC will show you just how many options we have for food. You can choose from custom-built burritos to a wide variety of snacks and fresh fruit. GBC also serves up Peet’s Coffee and Freshëns Smoothies. Eat at the outside tables, and you will get a glimpse of how active Sproul can be.

3. ASUC Student Union

Our newly revamped Student Union Building is not only beautiful, but is home to our campus’ newest eateries. Upstairs, Equator Coffee serves up delicious coffee beverages of all types, while downstairs, Root 150, True Blue Burgers, Asado Latin Grill, and House of Pi have salads, sandwiches, burgers, burritos, pizza… Basically everything. Both the food options and atmosphere at the ASUC will make everyone feel welcome.

4. Caffé Strada

Berkeley

This coffee shop is not considered on-campus dining, but it is so quintessentially UC Berkeley that it had to make the list. Across the street from Kroeber Fountain and Boalt Law School, Strada is a place you’re likely to run into professors chatting, GSI’s grading, and students working. The coffee and pastries are pretty excellent too.

Berkeley has a lot to offer and our food is no exception. What better way to be proud of your new Golden Bears status than explore the awesome food choices on campus?
