The only thing that might love summer as much as you do is a piece of citrus fruit. You know, if fruits had feelings. Oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits suck up the sun like sponges, so when you put a slice of citrus on your tongue, you can taste the summer.
This recipe balances the sharp flavors of cinnamon and ginger with the sweet taste of brown sugar, all on top of a summery grapefruit. It’s easy, fast and packs a punch, which is perfect for those early mornings when going to work or moving from your bed to the pool seems unbearable.
Prep Time: 3 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 6 minutes
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
2 large, pink grapefruits, halved and segmented
1. Preheat oven to broiler setting. Move an oven rack 4 inches below the broiler.
Tip: You may also use a toaster oven, as shown in the pictures.
2. Mix together brown sugar, cinnamon and ginger in a small bowl.
Optional: Place grapefruit halves, cut-side up, on a baking sheet. If you are using a toaster oven, you may skip this.
3. Sprinkle mixture evenly across the top of each half.
4. Broil for 3 minutes or until golden brown.
